Technical faults resulted in mass power outage

There was a blackout in the GRIDCo served regions in the country on Monday (May 13, 2017) evening.

The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) has attributed the power outage in their served regions to technical challenges the company is facing.

An announcement from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) who confirmed the challenges facing GRIDCo and said engineers were working to restore power in the affected areas.

Reports indicate that the power in some areas of the various affected regions returned after a while.

This is not the first time that Ghana has witnessed a nationwide blackout in 2017.

On May 3, Ghana witnessed a nationwide blackout as a result of a surge of power leading to the loss of a number of GRIDCo generators across the country and the subsequent loss of power.

Power was fully restored after 12 hours.
